Nashville
Airport, a spacious 750,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art
passenger terminal, opened in Nashville on October
14, 1987 with 46 air carrier gates is served by 17
carriers. This is more than twice the number of gates
and almost four times the square footage of previous
terminal facilities. The airport provides nonstop
and air service to nearly 84 cities in the U.S., Canada
and Mexico. Fifty-one of these cities are served nonstop.
Expanded and developed over the years, the airport
can meet ever-increasing demand. Nashville International
is the center for general aviation, with 186-based
aircraft and two fixed-base operators. Tennessee Air
National Guard, which is one of the largest Air National
Guard facilities in the country, resides in this very
International Airport.
The Airport is located 8 miles from downtown Nashville
and covers more than 4,460 acres of land. Presently,
17 scheduled airlines serve the airport , 9 of which
have entered into Signatory Airport Airline Agreements
with the Authority. These Agreements provide for the
use and lease of airport facilities and payments sufficient
to assure the fiscal integrity of the airport. As
of December 2001, the scheduled airlines operate 392
average daily departures providing same plane or nonstop
service to 81 cities. Fifty-one of these cities are
served nonstop.
